Dear Colleagues,

JOURNEY TO ALIGNMENT – DHL EXPRESS CONSULTATIONS

I have been informed, and I am in the process of ascertaining whether the information is correct, that DHL Express management may have started issuing booklets, and may have started a consultation process with GMB members and non unionists at local level, on the journey to alignment – flexible rewards.

Although we have just had a consultation ballot with our members that was overwhelming, in their decision to accept the offer of formal negotiations on this matter. I have to inform you, that no consultation, no input, no formal talks have taking place at national level on this matter. The recognition agreement is a national recognition agreement, and it only involves GMB members. The issue of journey to alignment is a fundamental alteration to our member’s conditions and pay structures. If local consultation is taking place, this will undermine that collective national effort that is taking place, to get DHL Express management to honor and stand by the national agreements, which are in place.

Therefore I must inform you, and ask you to advise all our local reps, that no discussion should be entered into this matter, until agreement is reached at national level, and the process for involving local reps and local consultations has been agreed. Therefore would you also inform our local reps and our local members, that until such time that talks are held, and an agreement on the way forward has been agreed, then our local reps and members should not sign for any booklets, any paperwork, or take part in any focus groups meetings, local level meetings, or discuss this matter on any agenda. They should also inform our members locally not to take part or discuss this matter with managers, supervisors or anyone else from DHL management structures. Instead they are advised to inform these people if approached, to make contact with, and negotiate with the new GMB national negotiating team on this matter.

So as not to create any confusion, I will inform members if and when, negotiations are to take place at national level on this matter, and what the process will be for local consultation.

Please bring this to the immediate attention of our members.

Justice for Bernard - Appeal

Bernard was a DHL worker and GMB member who was sacked by DHL while he was terminally ill.  We have launched an appeal on behalf of Bernard's wife and we would be grateful if GMB members could give generously. All cheques should be made payable to "GMB - Bernard Doherty appeal" and sent to Frank Minal at GMB Wandsworth Office, 347 Garratt Lane, London SW18 4DX.
